Summerlin occupies the valley’s western edge, pressed against the Spring Mountains and the Red Rock Canyon escarpment. The Ridges alone covers roughly 800 acres of guard-gated western Summerlin, about fifteen minutes from Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and its newest phases back onto undeveloped terrain.
When construction opens ground that has never been disturbed, the arthropods living in it — bark scorpions, black widows, desert spiders — do not disappear. They relocate into the nearest available harborage, which is your block wall, landscape rock, and the gap under your garage door. This same edge-of-desert dynamic shows up across every valley community that borders open land.
The Arizona bark scorpion can climb nearly any surface except clean glass and smooth plastic. That means stucco, block walls and interior drywall are all fair game, and it is why Summerlin homeowners find them on ceilings and upstairs. They are nocturnal and seek out dark, damp spots — pool equipment areas, laundry rooms, garages and irrigation boxes.
They also glow yellow-green under ultraviolet light, so a real scorpion assessment is done after dark with a blacklight. A daytime walkthrough will miss most of what is actually on the property.
We treat the structure and the perimeter, then work on the things that actually reduce scorpion numbers over time: sealing entry points, cutting back vegetation touching the house, addressing landscape rock and wood piles that create harborage, and managing the block wall line where scorpions travel. Because scorpion activity nationally peaks in August and September, we push Summerlin clients toward continuous service through late summer rather than one-off calls.
Summerlin’s established villages have decades of mature landscaping, which shifts the problem toward roof rats. The health district attributes valley roof rat success to exactly this combination of dense palms and cypress, year-round irrigation and pool water, and fruit trees. Those properties get a different plan built around exclusion and trimming rather than desert-edge barrier work.

I had a wasp issue near my pool, coming from an unknown location that I had tried every commercial trap and remedy on for 2 years without success. We couldn’t even use our pool anymore. These guy came out one time and I haven’t seen a wasp since! They were very informative and professional and have checked in on us a few times to make sure the wasps haven’t come back. Can’t say enough great things about them! They have saved our backyard!
